This little light of mine...

Lamps are a big deal for me. They are a favorite accessory of mine, and something that is critical to have a good selection of when you are a prop stylist.  Often, I will find an old vase, crock, or art piece to turn into into a base for a lamp. I have a custom supplier in my hometown ( where I can find all the supplies I need for both lamps and shades. I've collected lots of old alabaster bases over the years and a few mercury glass bases, too. But the lamp pictured above is one of my most prized possessions.  I found the grenade-shaped mercury glass base at an antiques shop for about thirty dollars. I added the wooden ginger jar base and had the piece re-wired.  The Lamp Shop ordered the silk shade for me and for very little money, I have a spectacularly interesting lamp that will likely be a permanent piece in my home. My advice is that when you spot a prize like this, immediately take the ticket and/or object to the register so that it doesn't walk out the door with someone else!

  1. I love lamps because they add interest and height to a room. I remember when I first got married I felt so grown up when we went searching for lamps for our very first apartment.
