Cooking with NieNie...a Give-away!

Do you love cooking? NieNie does; and she happens to be cooking up something special for the final page of HOLIDAY with Matthew Mead. But like every good (and stylish) cook, she needs a fancy apron, and so do you! And that's where we come in. Leave us a comment telling us what the favorite part of your Holiday meal is, and we will enter you for the chance to win the same apron (above) we have given NieNie for her Holiday cooking endeavours. And, of course, you know how it works: tell your friends about the contest (via Facebook, Twitter, or your blog OR become a follower) and we will add your name into the pot twice!

Happy Cooking!

Oh, and check out the sneak preview of the Nielson family Holiday shoot for the magazine!

Best,
Matthew

  1. We eat our holiday meal on Christmas Eve which is also my husband's birthday. My favorite part of the meal is the traditional gingerbread birthday cake with lemon sauce and whipped cream on top. What makes it so special is that I after baking, I hide a whole almond inside the cake, and whoever gets the slice of cake with the almond hands out the gifts of Christmas morning...

I have to say, my favorite part of the holiday meal is the 'lingering' which usually occurs after the delicious dessert, but when everyone is having such a wonderful time conversing, sharing and catching up that nobody wants to break that magical time by getting up from the table to begin clean-up.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The best part of our Holiday meal is sharing it with the family! I could eat pizza for Christmas as long as I'm eating it with those that are near and dear to my heart! Conversation is always the best dish!

  20. The best part of our holiday meal this year will be that our family is finally reunited. My husband is currently deployed and missed all of the important family holidays last year, to include our childrens' and my birthdays. The internet and video chat has been wonderful during this deployment, but it's not the same as having him home, working with me side by side in the kitchen, or even playfully kicking me OUT of the kitchen so he can take over the oven and stove! We're looking forward to the holiday season for many blessed reasons this year- meals, parties, friends and family.

  143. My favorite part of the holiday dinner is the dessert...but my real favorite part of the dinner is the family getting together!! As parents get older, I cherish the time we have to spend with them...doesn't matter what it is we are eating, or where we are, as long as we are together, enjoying each other's company! Happy holidays!

I appreciate being there much more than ever before, even though most of the time our meal is about 2 hours later than it's ever scheduled to be:)

  156. The best part of the meal is the cranberry sauce. Traditionally this was always made by my sweet mother-in-law, Lora. I started watching her and her slow, patient way she would stand over the stove and stir, skim, and stir. Even the special dish that would be placed on the serving buffet with the perfectly sweet/tart sauce was hers. Sweet Lora passed away four years ago at the age of 89. That first Christmas after her passing was hard for the entire family. I remember the tears when I brought out the dish, filled with yummy cranberry sauce. I am forever grateful that I watched and learned from her and practiced a few times before her passing. We miss her, but the tradition continues.

  170. My favorite part is having a traditional Polish Christmas Eve with my boyfriend's family. Everyone works hard together to create this special meal and then enjoys eating so many traditional dishes and hearing stories of Christmas's past.

  171. My favorite part of the meal actually is all of the food traditions of the meal. My grandmother always made a cranberry-orange salad and three kinds of homemade pickles in a cut-glass bowl. I have that bowl and use her recipes for the salad and the pickles. My mother would always make pecan pie with Georgia pecans. My own traditional contribution is a streuseled sweet potato casserole. It tastes like the best part of a sweet potato pie.

  172. i like to take the day off of work on christmas eve.

i love being HOME on Christmas Eve. Spending the day finishing up a few last details. (doing a little cleaning or having the cleaners come.)

and then in the afternoon, starting and cooking a wonderful meal. When my husband gets home, we have a great meal and relax and start the holiday.

  174. Gorgeous Apron! My favorite part of holiday cooking is bringing out all the traditional recipes, including "Chocolate Gravy" that we only cook at Christmas. We serve it with baking powder biscuits, a pat of butter and ham on the side. It always transports me back to my Christmases as a kid and now my kids associate it with the holidays. Love it!

  179. My most favorite part of the holiday cooking is not actually the meal. It's the goodies we make for Santa. We always go up to my grandma's house in Oregon, and making the treats becomes a huge, extended family type thing. We make fudge, meringues, no-bake cookies, 7-layer bars, Andes Mint chocolate cookies, cornflake candies, and my famous chocolate chip cookies. Everyone helps each other out, and there is lots of laughing and talking and flour flying. It's my favorite part of the holidays!
