 AUTUMN with Matthew Mead 2011

The pages of AUTUMN with Matthew Mead hold many beautiful, fun, and easy projects, recipes and ideas. We have compiled a list of project instructions and sources (below). If you can't find what you are looking for, please email us at and we will point you in the right direction.
1. From White Magic story, page 4:

9 mini white lanterns (we purchased ours here)
one sheet card stock
12 pipe cleaners
hot glue gun and glue sticks

We used nine paper mini lanterns from a string of lights kit in white. Simply glue them together in the desired shape: we liked the idea of the caterpillar looking up.  Glue sections of two to three lanterns and hold in place until completely dry and then attach each section together until you reach the desired length. Glue on paper eyes, fins and pipe cleaners between the lanterns.  Use as a centerpiece on a dining or entry table.

2. From Autumn Style story, page 94:

Amy Powers' Dad's Gingerbread Recipe:

Mix thoroughly:

1/2 cup soft shortening

1 egg

1/2 cup sugar

Blend in:

1 cup dark molasses

1 cup boiling water

Sift together and stir in slowly, beating until smooth:

2 1/4 cup sifted flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. ginger

1 tsp. cinnamon
**Pour into a well greased and floured 9-inch square pan. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes in a 325 degree oven. Serve hot with whipped cream or applesauce. Enjoy!
